DOLE QUEZON CONDUCTS FINANCIAL LITERACY SEMINAR FOR INFORMAL SECTOR WORKERS

To acknowledge the economic and social contributions of informal sector workers to the country, the Department of Labor and Employment Quezon Provincial Office (QPO) conducted a financial literacy seminar on May 27-28, 2021. This is also in line with the celebration of Linggo ng Manggagawa by virtue of Proclamation No. 1215 series of 1998.

“The objective of this financial literacy seminar is to capacitate all the members of the livelihood associations financially towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said DOLE QPO Provincial Head Mr. Edwin T. Hernandez.

“We also aim to increase financial consciousness of the organizations’ members on the values and benefits of being financially empowered, and to inform them about the available financial tools that can help them in the promotion of their financial well-being,” he added.

According to Mr. Rogelio Gondollas, the Regional Manager of Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC), who served as resource speaker:

“We want to ensure that you will be able to use the financial tools that are appropriate to your needs and capacity.”

He also remarked that, “This financial literacy seminars offered by DOLE will help you manage your finances and achieve your financial goals especially during this time that we are experiencing a crisis.”

The first leg of the Financial Literacy Seminar was held at the Covered Court of Brgy. Silanganan in Dolores, Quezon on May 27, 2021. It was attended by 17 participants who are representatives of KALIPI organizations from 16 barangays in the said municipality. They were awarded with rice retailing packages worth P985,488 last May 13 during the visit of Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III.

On the other hand, the second leg of the Financial Literacy Seminar was held on May 28, 2021 at General Luna Central Elementary School in General Luna, Quezon. The 22 participants in this event were also granted with rice retailing packages worth P976,232 on December 14 last year.

The participants were overjoyed with the conduct of the Financial Literacy Seminars as prizes were given to those who correctly answered the questions of the resource speaker.

“Taos puso po ang aming pasasalamat sa DOLE at SIDC sa pagbabahagi sa amin ng kaalaman at kasanayan upang pamahalaan nang epektibo ang pananalapi ng aming mga organisasyon para na rin po sa aming seguridad lalo na ngayon sa panahon ng pandemya. Makakaasa po kayo na gagawin namin ang lahat ng aming makakaya at responsibilidad upang tuluyang umunlad ang binigay ninyong ito sa amin,” said one of the participants.
