DOLE CAVITE JOINS WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOR CELEBRATION

Aside from the commemoration of the country’s Independence Day, the whole nation also celebrates the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL) every 12th day of June.

DOLE Cavite Provincial Office (DOLE CPO) joins the celebration of WDACL each year by conducting awareness raising activities to the different stakeholders and annual gift-giving ceremony participated by the program partners and former child laborers.

On June 10, 2021, a webinar entitled “Child Labor and How It Is Being Addressed in the Philippines” was conducted by Ms. Ma. Angelique E. Yaun, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of DOLE CPO. Said webinar was attended by various stakeholders from the academe and local government unit. Criminology students also participated, since their course requires knowledge on handling situations and cases of child labor. During the said webinar, child labor was defined and different legal policies were discussed.

The annual distribution of school supplies for the Project Angel Tree beneficiaries in Cavite was facilitated by Ms. Violeta E. Malingin, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of DOLE CPO on June 23 and 25, 2021. Due to the current pandemic situation, the activity was done in two batches - first is the ceremonial turn-over of gifts and donations from the program partners to DOLE CPO while the second activity is the ceremonial turn-over of the program partners’ gifts and donations from DOLE CPO to the Project Angel Tree beneficiaries through their parents and caretakers.

For this year, considering the current pandemic situation, most of the beneficiaries manifested that they are in need of electronic gadgets for their online schooling and school supplies for the modular mode of learning.

Luckily, our program partners willingly donated the specific needs of these beneficiaries to aid in their online and modular classes. Aside from the electronic gadgets and school supplies, basic necessities such as food and other grocery items as well as basic personal protective equipment against COVID-19 such as face masks, face shield s and alcohols were also provided.

The participating program partners for this year are the following: Can Asia, Inc., SMC Yamamura Fuso Molds, San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation - SMY Glass Plant, Cavite Nagano Seiko, Inc., CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc., JAE Philippines Inc., Mtsuba Philippines Corporation, Noah’s Ark Manpower Services, Semitec Electronics Philippines Inc. And Yumex Philippines Corporation.

In his message, Engr. Joseph P. Gacosta, Officer-in-Charge of DOLE CPO extended his gratitude to the program partners for their never-ending support to the endeavor of the Department to sustain the educational and basic needs of the former child laborers. He also reiterated the aim of the Department to eliminate the worst forms of child labor in the country by being involved in the different advocacy programs of the Department.
