DOLE RIZAL AWARDS SAFETY SEAL TO MEGAWIDE CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION

To confirm its compliance with the minimum public health standards set by the government, the Department of Labor and Employment Rizal Provincial Office (DOLE RPO) awarded a safety seal certification to Megawide Construction Corporation-Industrial Plant last July 21.

Megawide Construction Corporation is one of the biggest engineering and infrastructure companies in the Philippines. With over 1,300 workers under the Construction Equipment Logistic Division, Megawide continues to provide quality services in the industry. Currently, the Construction Giant uses innovative technologies in construction such as concrete batching, precasts, and formwork systems to lessen the building time of their projects.

Megawide Construction Corporation is the first company in the Property Building industry in Region IV-A to receive the Safety Seal Certification.

The Safety Seal Certification is a voluntary certification program that checks if an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses contact tracing with StaySafe.ph.

DOLE CALABARZON Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman, who led the awarding of Safety Seal to Megawide Construction Corporation-Industrial Plant reminded the company as to what the safety seal signifies.

“This safety seal, symbolizes customers’ confidence and the ability of the company not only to deliver products and services, but more importantly, on how you take care of your people,” Director Guzman said.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for infrastructure building continues to rise. With this, most of the Megawide constructions sites are active. But not all of their employees were confident to report to work because of the risks of having COVID-19. This prompts the management of the Construction Giant to apply for the safety seal.

Megawide's Health, Safety, Environment, and Security Manager Christopher Tamayo shares that they applied for safety seal to appease the concern of their workers.

“Some of our workers are hesitant to come to work because they are afraid that they will be infected with COVID-19. This safety seal serves as a proof that they should not be afraid anymore,” Tamayo reiterated.

During the awarding ceremony, DOLE Rizal Provincial Head, Marivic Martinez extended her commendation to Megawide for complying the minimum health and safety requirements as well as the Labor standards.

“Congratulations, Megawide! I should say that they are not just complying on the minimum health requirements but as far as Labor standards and even technical, they are indeed compliant. I hope you will maintain, you will sustain the safety seal,” Dir. Martinez said.

DOLE CALABARZON OIC-Assistant Regional Director Atty. Nepomuceno A. Leaño, II, Labor Inspector Erwin Rommel C. De Jesus, Megawide Vice President of Formwork Business Unit Neil Sharpe, Facilities Head Ruel Alma, and Human Resource of Business Unit Executive Jose Voltaire Dela Rosa were also present in the event.

In line with the Inter-Agency Task Force Resolution No. 87 S. 2020, DOLE issues the Safety Seal for the manufacturing, construction sites, utilities (electric, water, gas, air conditioning supply, sewerage, waste management) information and communication companies (private publication, news, movie production, TV and radio companies), and warehouses.
