GIFTED TO GIVE: A JOB FAIR AND CAREER COACHING SERIES IN BATANGAS

In line with the feast of St. Padre Pio, the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio, PESO – Sto. Tomas City and the DOLE – Batangas conducted a hybrid type of job fair and career coaching series on 14-16 September 2021.

A Job Fair to Batanguenos

The job fair was the launching of the activity where the organizers and 30 jobseekers were present in the Divine Mercy Chapel at the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio at the City of Sto. Tomas, Batangas on 14 September 2021. The rest of the participants were invited via online conference.

“Ang National Shrine po ni Santo Padre Pio ay hindi magsasawang tumulong at magbigay hangga’t may mga taong katulad ninyo na laging handang magbigay ng sarili para makatulong sa kapwa. Mabuhay po kayo!”, Rev. Fr. Oscar Andal, Rector and Parish Priest of NSSPP, remarked as he welcomed the participants of the event.

“Ito ay kauna-unahang activity natin with the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio, and of course ng ating City Government of Sto. Tomas thru their Public Employment Service Office. Nawa’y mas marami pang aktibidad tayo na ganito na makakatulong sa ating mga kababayang jobseekers”, DOLE-Batangas Provincial Director Predelma Tan said as she conveyed her message of thanks to the organizers and the jobseekers present in the activity.

Furthermore, Mr. Chester del Valle of DOLE-Batangas and Ms. Margareth delos Reyes of PESO-Sto Tomas introduced the Pursigeh website to the attendees. Pursigeh is the employment website of DOLE-Batangas. There were seven companies who participated in the virtual job: Epson, Simpex Machineries Inc, Furukawa Automotive Systems, J.E. Manalo & Co. Inc., Prime Gloves, BIFIDO Health Marketing Corporation, and CDO Foodsphere, Inc.

Career Coaching series

Three career coaches from the University of Batangas were invited as resource speakers for the 3-day activity. They were Ms. Mary Joy Garcia, Ms. Giselle Manansala and Mr. Carl Reman Maranan.

They discussed about the career and work evolution—the trends and realities of today. This is to prepare and familiarize the jobseekers or career-shifters on the setup used by companies now, like flexible work arrangements, work-from-home, etc. Aside from these, they also gave ideas from their interviewed persons from the different HR pool, tips on how to be organized and confident in a virtual working setup, and the career path nowadays.

Meanwhile, 30 applicants joined the virtual career coaching every day via Google Meet.

Also present in the series of activities were Ms. Judy Bautista, HR Manager, NSSPP; Ms. Aileen Simple Maligaya, Social Media Manager, NSSPP; Ms. Rose Lyn C. Francisco, PESO Manager, City of Sto. Tomas; Ms. Jonalyn Ramilo, Employment focal, DOLE-Batangas; and the JCI who acted as marshals during the launching.
