Forty-nine (49) members of union and workers’ associations in Batangas attended the annual two-day WODP Seminar virtually on 15-16 September 2021.

DOLE Batangas Provincial Director Predelma Tan welcomed and expressed her gratitude to all the participants. She mentioned that despite the difficult situtions brought about by the pandemic, they were still interested 3She assured that the 2-day activity will be full of knowledge and learning.

First day highlights

Engr. Kristine Carol S. Ramos and Ms. Jennifer Obien elaborated the DOLE-DOH-DILG-DOT-DTI Joint Memorandum Circuar No. 2101, series of 2021 (Implementing Guidelines of the Safety Seal Certification Program) where they have emphasized the importance of safety seal stickers and the integration with for contact tracing purposes in establishments. They have also discussed the Department Order 208-20 (Guidelines for the Implementatin of Mental Health Workplace Policies Program for the Private Sector). They stressed that its programs shall be the responsibility of the employer through the OSH committee.

Aside from Usapang Sahod, Board Sec. Atty. Rio Ariel Soriano and Mr. Gener Rivera LEO III of RTWPB IV-A enlightened participants with topics on Productivity 101, ISTIV Values, 7S of Food Housekeeping and ISTIV Bayanihan.

Ms. Stephene S. Barredo, Information Oficer II, Employees Compensation Commission - Region 6 then educated attendees about the Board Resolution 20-03-07 dated March 31 2020. This streamlines the processing of EC claims of workers for diseases, including COVID-19, to Social Security System (SSS) and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) as directed by the DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

Furthermore, Ms. Marivic T. Villa, Chief LEO of Bureau of Labor Relations addressed the issues and purpose of Union Finance and Audit.

Second day focus

On the next day of discussion, Dir. Edgar G. Aquino of National Conciliaton and Mediation Board (NCMB IV-A) reiterated the Implementing Rules, Roles and Responsibilities of Union Officers and Members. He also managed to tackle the issue of strike and lockouts.

Meanwhile, Dr. Alex Z. Silang, Lipa City Health Officer informed attendees about the New Delta Variant, Management and Prevention for the Working Sector. He also urged everyone to be vaccinated already.

Ms. Cielo Marte-Presas, Search Consultant/Director of Margherita Lotti, Inc., and Happiness Life Coach concluded the two-day activity with her presentation on the strategies of dealing with one’s mental issues.

Ms. Cristina Barayang, Labor Relations focal of DOLE-Batangas facilitated the WODP seminar. Ms. Aljane Lorica, Ms. Abigail Katigbak and Mr. Edward Sario, technical staff of DOLE-Batangas also joined and assisted in the said virtual activity.
