130 TRICYCLE DRIVERS FROM RODRIGUEZ RECEIVE CASH AID FROM DOLE RIZAL

DOLE Rizal Provincial Office (DOLE RPO) distributed recently a total of P650,000.00 cash assistance to 130 members of Rodriguez Tricycle Operators Drivers’ Association (ROTODA) held at the Montalban District Office.

The said assistance is one of the key programs of the Department, the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) under Bayanihan II Recover as One Act.

In partnership with the Department of Tourism, DOLE provides a one-time cash assistance amounting to P5,000.00 to pandemic-stricken laborers in the tourism sector as many workers from their sector have been losing their jobs since the start of strict quarantine and lockdown measures when the pandemic hit.

Due to strict transportation guidelines implemented and as the mobility of people are limited, tricycle drivers who drive around tourist destinations are some of the heavily affected. ROTODA Secretary Rheymon Holampong recalled the challenges they had faced especially during the months of lockdown.

“Talagang apektado ang nasa tricycle. Talagang isa po sa sobrang apektado kasi sa ngayon, bawas po ang sakay, syempre dadagdag po ng pamasahe. ‘Yung mga mananakay, hindi na po gaanong tinatangkilik ‘yung tricycle,” Holampong expressed.
Before the pandemic, ROTODA drivers earned an average of P600.00 to P700.00 per day. Now, earning PhP 300.00 a day is already a challenge for them.

“Dati po, ‘yung normal, talagang kumikita kami ng P600 pataas, ngayon P300, hirap na eh. Maghapon na ‘yun. May ibabawas pa roon, kawawa ang mga nagbaboundary,” Holampong added.

Holampong expressed his gratitude to DOLE for the cash aid they had received.

“Malaking pasalamat po kami sa DOLE na natulungan po ang miyembro namin kasi malaking tulong po noon sa bawat isang miyembro, malaking tulong ‘yun na kahit papaano may pandagdag,” the ROTODA Official said.

DOLE Rizal Labor and Employment Officers Abigail Gilpo and Kristielle Joy Maglabe led the distribution of cash aid.

In his statement last April 12 this year, Labor Secretary Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III assured the tourism workers that DOLE, in cooperation with DOT, will continuously provide support to their sector.

“The Labor Department, in cooperation with the DOT (Department of Tourism) will continuously provide assistance to our beloved workers in the tourism sector. We will never falter despite the increasing odds brought by this pandemic,” the Labor Premiere said.
