DOLE RIZAL HOLDS FIRST WODP TRAINING FOR WORKERS’ ASSOCIATIONS MEMBERS FOR 2022

Department of Labor and Employment Rizal Provincial Office (DOLE RPO) holds its first training under the Workers Organization and Development Program (WODP) for Fiscal Year 2022 to a total of 35 members of different workers’ associations from the Municipality of Jalajala at Fish Landing, Brgy. Punta, Jalajala last March 29.

The conducted seminar is composed of topics on financial management and bookkeeping which are all vital for workers associations. DOLE RPO understands the importance of financial management to workers’ associations as most of them have no background on accounting and bookkeeping. One of the objective of the seminar is to improve how they manage their association finances to help the associations track their funds and to determine whether they are gaining profit from their financial activities. The seminar gave the members a background on the different accounting terms and how to properly differentiate credit and debit. Aside from these topics, the speaker, DILP Focal Person Janine A. Rivera, also gave the participants some activities and mini-quizzes to ensure that they were able to grasp the topics discussed.

On the second half of the seminar, Labor Inspector Erwin Rommel C. De Jesus discussed mental health to the participants. He discussed the importance of mental health and other related concepts to them. He also gave real-life experiences for the participants to appreciate the topic and for them to understand clearly.

“Mahalaga pong matutunan natin ang kahalagahan ng mental health ngayong mga panahon na ito dahil malaki po ang naging epekto ng pandemya hindi lamang sa kalusugan nating pisikal kundi na rin sa ating mental health. Marami po sa atin ang nakaranas ng stress dahil sa tipon-tipong problemang dumadating sa araw-araw,” WODP Focal Person Charmaine Baisa explained as she introduced the resource speaker for the mental health topics.

The discussion on mental health is one of the requested topics for the office’s WODP sessions as it is a relatively new concept highlighted by the lockdowns due to the ongoing global pandemic.

Conducting free training or awarding of training grants to workers’ associations and labor organizations’ members are just one of the activities under the Workers Organization and Development Program (WODP) of the Department. Aside from this, the Department is also offering scholarship for labor organization members through the Regular WODP Scholarship, or for dependents of union members through WODP Isabelo Delos Reyes Scholarship.
