Press Releases

Recently, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) CALABARZON through the DOLE Cavite Provincial Office (CPO) awarded two livelihood assistance packages to sixty (60) urban poor from Kawit, Cavite, wherein twenty-five (25) are members of Kawit Community Urban Poor – Aplaya Chapter, while thirty-five (35) members are from Potol Chapter - both registered with DOLE CPO.

The livelihood assistance was initiated by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) through coordination with DOLE CPO and through the implementation of DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), one of the flagship programs of DOLE that opens economic opportunities to the vulnerable and marginalized sectors by providing them working capital in the form of raw materials, equipment, tools and jigs and other support services. The program seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers either through emergency employment, and promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises.

The Potol Chapter received Php274,168.00 worth of laundry services livelihood package such as washing machines, clothes hanger and other tools for their laundry shop, while the Aplaya Chapter received Php 278,300.00 worth of sewing and tailoring livelihood package which includes sewing machines, threads, Sneedles and fabrics.

During the awarding, Engr. Joseph P. Gacosta, Officer-in-Charge of DOLE CPO congratulated the beneficiaries for their new livelihood opportunities. Engr. Gacosta believes that both groups will strive hard to make their businesses successful and competitive in the community.

“Nawa’y mapagyaman at mapagyabong ninyo ang mga panimulang inihandog sa inyo ng gobyerno. Hindi lahat ay nabibiyayaan ng kagaya ng ipinagkaloob sa inyo, kaya sana ito ay mapalago at mapaunlad ng bawat myembro.”, Engr. Gacosta stated in his message.

Meanwhile, the members of the two associations felt very grateful and blessed for the new potential source of additional income provided to them that will not only benefit themselves, but most importantly, their families.

“Ang target po namin na merkado ay ang aming barangay at mga residenteng naninirahan malapit sa aming pwesto. Kami ay suportado ng aming local government kaya naman kami ay umaasa na mapapanatili naming matagumpay ang panimulang ito na hinandog sa amin ng pamahalaan”, one of the association’s members expressed.

Also present during the awarding are DOLE personnel, Mr. Ricky Martin V. Velasco and Ms. Joyce Ann Ruth G. Teaño and PCUP representatives, Chairperson Alvin Feliciano, and Coordinator Rosemarie Borja Makimkim.

A total of Php552,468.00 worth of livelihood assistance was awarded to the two associations.
