DOLE CALABARZON AWARDS TAILORING LIVELIHOOD TO 55 BENEFICIARIES IN CAVITE

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, in January 2022, the country’s unemployment rate was reported at 6.4 percent. This translates to 2.93 million unemployed Filipinos, projecting a decline of 1.04 million from the 3.96 million reported in January 2021.

Recently, 55 individuals received sewing machines and accessories from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through the Cavite Provincial Office (CPO) as a startup kit in creating a new stream of income for the said beneficiaries, who are displaced workers from various companies in the province of Cavite.

The awarding took place at DOLE CPO on May 30, 2022 spearheaded by CPO’s livelihood officers Ricky Martin Velasco, Joyce Ann Ruth Teaño, and Marites Espineli. Each beneficiary was awarded a sewing and tailoring livelihood package amounting to Php 17,934.00 which includes a single needle automatic machine, needles, threads, a pair of scissors, and fabric.

With the emerging growth of displaced workers and unemployment rate, DOLE has been actively paying attention in providing assistance to affected individuals through its livelihood assistance under DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

Kabuhayan Program or DILP is one of the flagship programs of DOLE that aspires to contribute to poverty reduction and open economic opportunities to the vulnerable and marginalized sectors by startup kits in form of raw materials, equipment, and other support services.

Despite the scorching heat, recipients from different areas of Cavite were all smiles and grateful as they check their machines and prepare to bring them home to start their new journey.

“Malaking tulong po ito sa amin. Sobrang salamat po. Napakapalad po naming na nabiyayaan kami nito” said one of the beneficiaries.

A total of Php 986,370.00 worth of livelihood assistance was awarded to beneficiaries and displaced workers.
