Press Releases

31-year-old Carlo of Barangay Paciano, Rizal, Calamba, Laguna resigned from his job as an office staff in a hospital searching for a better opportunity. Learning from friends of the “Buhayani Job Fair” on 11 June 2022, he took the chance and asked his girlfriend to tag along.

Resume in hand, he was one of the 881 registered applicants that eagerly lined up at SM Calamba when the Buhayani Job Fair was opened to the public.

DOLE Laguna Provincial Director Guido R. Recio who was closely monitoring the activity stated that there were 46 employers at SM Calamba offering 11, 773 vacancies.

Carlo felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness as he handed out his resume to prospective employers. He hit the jackpot on the third try as he was hired on the spot by a contractor deploying production workers in various manufacturing companies in Laguna. He was one of the lucky 550 applicants immediately recruited by the Site Coordinator.

What does it take to be hired on the spot? In the case of Carlo, a clean resume where the prospective employer can easily see the highlights of his educational and work background, self-confidence, which boosted his chance of getting hired, and being ready with complete requirements are a must.

For the personnel officer of the contractor who hired him, it was Carlo’s confidence that initially got her attention. It was the initial point that prompted the interviewer to ask more questions until the magic words “you are hired “was heard by Carlo. Landing a job before lunchtime, Carlo had the rest of the day to spend time and bond with his girlfriend.

Incoming Mayor Roseller H. Rizal welcomed the employers and applicants and vowed that the City Government of Calamba will provide job opportunities not only for Calamba residents but also to those applicants in nearby areas.

DOLE Calabarzon Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman in his message emphasized the fact that in reality there are abundant job offers from various companies and it is up to the applicants to take advantage of the opportunity.

Laguna job seekers were given job opportunities again as another Job Fair was held on Independence Day at Metro Central Mall in Sta Cruz, Laguna. There were 33 employers at the job fair offering 8,930 vacancies in which 348 of the 459 registered applicants were hired on the spot according to Employment Focal and Senior Labor and Employment Officer, Ms. Daisy G. Ramos.

Still, with many vacancies, there is a good chance that many other applicants will also share the fate of Carlo who finally got a job.
