DOLE CALABARZON BRINGS ITS SERVICES TO THE ISLAND MUNICIPALITIES OF QUEZON PROVINCE

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) CALABARZON, through its DOLE Quezon Provincial Office (DOLE QPO) Head Edwin T. Hernandez together with DOLE QPO personnel, recently crossed the eastern sea of the province to visit the Polillo Group of Islands despite uncertain weather conditions brought about by low pressure area and monsoons.

Among the services brought to the island municipalities by the DOLE Quezon team are the payment of salaries to the beneficiaries of Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged workers popularly known as TUPAD, child labor profiling and the conduct of routine inspection on the island’s sole power generator to determine its compliance to General Labor Standards as well as safety and health.

A total of 1,422 TUPAD beneficiaries benefitted from the program, 519 of which were from the Municipality of Polillo, 219 from Jomalig, 235 from Patnanungan, 201 from Panukulan, and 248 from Burdeos.

The cash payout was facilitated by DOLE QPO Employment Focal Genecille P. Aguirre together with project based TUPAD Coordinators. Likewise, an orientation on the salient features of Republic Act No. 9231 was conducted by Child Labor Focal Kim Daren F. Pabilonia and was participated by LGU Polillo’s Barangay Employment Service Units and members of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children. An orientation on the profiling of Child Laborers was also conducted with the hired Government Internship Program (GIPs) profilers and DOLE’s Community Facilitator.

Furthermore, a meeting with the management and workers of the island’s sole power generator, Renesons Energy Polillo, Inc, was initiated by Mr. Hernandez to oversee the proposed expansion project of the power generator and check on their compliance with Technical Safety requirements.

This was followed by a routine inspection conducted by DOLE Quezon Safety Engineer Alwin B. Boncodin. who also inspected the on-going construction of the Atulayan-Bislian-Pamatdan Farm-to-Market Road in Polillo funded under the Philippine Rural Development Program of the Department of Agriculture to determine its compliance to the approved Construction Safety and Health Program issued by DOLE.

Mr. Hernandez alluded the team’s efforts as he remarked, “Rabindranath Tagore once said, you can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water, you cannot bring government services to the people merely by staying at the four corners of your workplace and wait for them to come and seek your help and assistance. We, at DOLE CALABARZON, must ensure that our services reach all those who may need it.”
