In celebration of "Araw ng mga Kasambahay," the Department of Labor and Employment CALABARZON through its Cavite Provincial Office (DOLE-CPO), and in coordination with the local government of Bacoor distributed hygiene kits and food packs to fifty (50) domestic workers or kasambahay from Habay 1, Bacoor City, Cavite.
Ms. Marivic B. Martinez, Provincial Director of DOLE CPO, Mr. Robert "Obet" Castillo, Baragay Captain of Habay I and Dr. Abraham De Castro, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager of Bacoor, led the distribution of hygiene kits and meals.
In her message, Director Martinez emphasized the importance of kasambahay in every household and committed to be more active in providing technical assistance, labor information and services to the public, specifically to the domestic workers.
“Happy Kasambahay day po, ang araw na ito ay para sa inyo. Ang isang tahanan ay hindi magpa-function kung wala kayo. Ikakalat natin sa Cavite ang programa ng DOLE at ito ay nag simula na sa Bacoor. Ang goal po namin ay makita at maramdaman ninyo ang presensya at programa ng DOLE”, she remarked.
She also reminded employers to properly pay their workers and provide the mandated social welfare benefits.
Meanwhile, Brgy. Captain Castillo expressed his gratitude to Mayor Strike Revilla, Congesswoman Lani Mercado-Revilla, PESO, and DOLE for their support. He also added, “Kung kayo ay may mga anak na walang trabaho, nandyan ang DOLE para bigyan sila ng trabaho at kabuhayan, marami na silang natulungan”
The fifty (50) beneficiaries were pleased and delighted with the event. One of them, Ms. Marilou Dolfo, 42, who works as a cleaner in the church expressed her appreciation for the hygiene kits, “Masaya po ako sa programa, tsaka nakasama ko po kayo mga taga-DOLE. Maraming maraming salamat po sa ibinigay ninyo po sa amin na hygiene kits at merienda.” she exclaimed.
The said event marks the 8th year anniversary of Republic Act No. 10361, also known as the Batas Kasambahay, which aims to protect and promote the rights and welfare of domestic workers.
