The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office IV-A through its Batangas Provincial Office (DOLE-BPO) culminated its last leg of orientations about the Construction, Safety, and Health Program (CSHP) with contractors at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Batangas IV District Engineering Office, Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas, March 8.
For the last session of orientation, DOLE BPO Labor and Employment Officers Ms. Roma Rori Mae Magtaas and Ms. Jenalyn De Chavez led the conduct of orientation with 46 contractors.
One of the participants, Mr. Bobby Guce, expressed his sincere appreciation to the department in educating and assisting them with their CSHP application requirements.“Sa katulad po naming nagtatrabaho sa construction, ‘yun pong ganitong opportunity ay napakaganda dahil doon po namin nalalaman talaga lahat kung ano po ang dapat naming gawin na maging safe ang mga ginagawa namin…Kailangan po naming i-refresh, basahin kung ano po ‘yung natutuhan namin dito para makita po namin, one-by-one, step-by-step kung ano po talaga ang prosesong gagawin, ‘yung mga ipapatupad po sa construction site,” Guce shared.
Prior to the orientation in Lipa City, DOLE-BPO also held similar activities in other District Engineering Offices (DEOs) of DPWH in Balayan, Batangas City, and Tanauan City.
Mr. Mishael Alwyn Castillo, an employee of DPWH handling CSHP applications, shared that the learnings that they acquired will help them in implementing the program swiftly. “Napakahalaga ng safety sa isang workplace lalo na sa mga tao kasi hindi naman magiging effective ang isang project, isang trabaho kung wala ang safety…Very timely s’ya at mas naging aware sila pagdating sa safety at kung ano ‘yung mga kailangan nilang papel, mga documents para sa approval ng kanilang CSHP application,” Castillo uttered.
According to Ms. Magtaas, the orientation aims to provide technical guidance on the CSHP application process to existing contractors in the province.
“Para sa amin naman na mga evaluator ng CSHP, naging malaking tulong ito upang mas mapabilis ang pag disseminate namin ng information sa halos lahat ng contractors dito sa probinsya ng Batangas. Nagkaroon din ng open forum sa nasabing orientation na nakatulong upang mapakinggan ang iba’t ibang suhestyon at hinaing ng bawat contractors,” Magtaas remarked.
During the orientation, resource speakers reiterated the different documents required as well as common errors during the submission of the applications.
They also tackled the general labor standards and the family welfare program of the Department.
A total of 129 contractors joined in the four series of orientations in various DPWH DEOs.
