In this era of surging entrepreneurs and raining startups, partnerships and coordinating services among stakeholders is not only a necessary practice but an important strategy to successfully implement and sustain common goals.
On May 1, in line with the nation’s 121st Labor Day Celebration, different public and private partners and stakeholders geared up to address the persistent problems of unemployment and under employment with an objective to extend opportunities to jobseekers in the municipality and nearby towns.
Simultaneous Job Fair activities were held in the northern part of Laguna located at Pacita Astrodome, San Pedro City and in the southern portion at the iMall, Barangay Tunhac, Famy.
The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) spearheaded the activity in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office IV-A through its Laguna Provincial Office (DOLE-LPO), San Pedro Colleges of Business and Arts, San Pedro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, San Pedro City Barangay Service Employment Units (BESU) and the Provincial Government of Laguna.
The PESO Laguna Employment and Information System (PLEIS), an online job portal, was utilized to provide pre-registration, referral, recruitment and placement system that can be easily accessed bridging the gap between local workforce and company owners in just a finger away.
With the theme “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho para sa Manggagawang Pilipino,” fifty-six (56) employers were gathered including three (3) overseas recruitment agencies, and three (3) government offices (the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Department of Migrant Workers and Employees’ Compensation Commission) with almost 8,011 job opportunities.
A total of 325 individuals who were Hired-On-the-Spot (HOTS) are grateful as they will be starting their new careers in their respective workplaces.
Hon. Mayor Art Mercado of San Pedro City and Hon. Mayor Lorenzo Rellosa of Famy recognized and praised the valuable contributions of the labor force in the continuous recovery of the economy. They also encouraged jobseekers to take advantage of the opportunity to be employed, adding that through the job fair, applicants can choose among the companies in one convenient location thus, saving on time, cost and effort.
DOLE CALABARZON Mediator-Arbiter Atty. Rosita C. Villaluz was also present to provide legal service assistance and facilitated labor disputes between and among the management, employees, and jobseekers.
DOLE-LPO Senior Labor and Employment Officers Daisy Ramos and Raymond Ramos discussed the Basic Rights of the workers, Work Ethics, and Pre-Employment helpful tips to increase the chances of getting hired.
Dennis Agbat, 44 years old and a College Undergraduate who has been unemployed for 3 months shared, “Sobrang saya po at nagpapasalamat ako dahil magkakaroon na po muli ako ng trabaho. Napakahirap po ng buhay ngayon at talagang kailangan po magsumikap para makaraos.”
“Mabilis at maayos po ang Job Fair na ito. Napaka-sarap po sa pakiramdam na magkakaroon na ako ng trabaho dahil malaking tulong po ito sa pang araw-araw naming gastusin. Sana po ay marami pa kayong matulungan na kagaya ko.” Jackie Castillo, one of the HOTS, also stated.
Most of the employers mentioned dedication, proper attitude and willingness to be trained as their top considerations in choosing their employees aside from what is written on their biodata.
DOLE LPO continuously encourages the public, most especially the jobseekers and company owners, to use the digital platform PLEIS managed by the PESO Provincial Government of Laguna by logging in thru pleis.laguna.gov.ph.
