NEW DAY, NEW STORY OF HOPE: AWARDING OF LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE FOR PARENTS OF PROFILED CHILD LABORERS

The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office IV-A through its Cavite Provincial Office (DOLE-CPO), provided livelihood packages to thirteen (13) parents of identified and profiled child laborers from Kawit and Trece Martires City.

Director Marivic Martinez delivered a message where she explained the meaning of child labor and the Department's recommendations.

"These are children who, at a young age, are engaged in work that is not appropriate for their age. We can categorize the work they are involved in as quite hazardous or not suitable because they are at a young age, so our government has intervened to provide assistance. The obligation of parents or guardians is to give these children a normal life based on our profile."

Various packages that are appropriate to the talents and abilities of the parents were distributed, such as rice retailing, dishwashing liquid production, biko making, puto making, kakanin making, and selling graham balls and ice scramble, welding, peanut butter making, and selling frozen goods as their starting businesses.

The beneficiaries found the awarding ceremony very meaningful and unforgettable. They also expressed their joy and gratitude to DOLE.

Director Martinez also had the opportunity to speak to all the parents who received the livelihood package. She encouraged them to expand and develop the said assistance and make it more meaningful and beneficial in the long run.

Ms. Joyce Ann Ruth Teaño, Livelihood Focal Person, and Ms. Dianne Digma, Child Labor Profiling Community Facilitator, were also present.
