DOLE & ILO-IPEC Tie up to Strengthen Child Labor Program in Quezon

 

ARD Alex V. Avila gave his message and led the signing of “DEKLARASYON NG PANININDIGAN” during the 2011 World Day Against Child Labor.

As support to the celebration of the 2011 World Day Against Child Labor, the DOLE-QFO and ILO-IPEC launched a motorcade in Lucena City followed by a short program at the Quezon National High School (QNHS). Officials and Members of the Provincial Child Labor Committee (PCLC) and Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) actively participated during the said activities.

The bad weather condition did not stop the attendees in joining the motorcade of about 64 vehicles. The participant agencies include DOLE, Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Office of the Provincial Governor, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Office of the City Mayor, Lucena City Social Welfare and Development Office, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine National Police, Barangay Officials, National Anti-Poverty Commission, members of the meadia and civic organization like Rotary Club of Cosmopolitan Lucena.

The participants from both local and national government agencies and the motorcade during 2011 World Day Against Child Labor in Lucena City.

In his opening message, PCLC Chairman – Mr. Virgilio T. Magsino, underscored the role of PCLC in eradication of worst form of child labor. He emphasized the various assistance extended by DOLE to identified child laborers from Lucban, Infanta, Unisan and Mulanay, Quezon. He enumerated the different livelihood assistance extended to parents of these child laborers and discouraged the engagement of their children in worst forms of child labor.

ILO-IPEC Provincial Coordinator Cecille Colarina delivered a short message which include child labor plans and programs in Quezon province. The ILO-IPEC project covers pilot communities in Lucena City, Catanauan and Calauag, Quezon. She expressed the ILO-IPEC’s willingness to work hand with partner agencies in the government and NGO’s in implementing programs and services to uplift the living conditions of families of child laborers. She pointed out that their Office will spearhead a movement in providing financial assistance through partner government agencies to eradicate worst forms of child labor and in protecting the rights of at-risk children.

He shared that Quezon Province has the most number of child laborers among provinces in Region IV-A. He then expressed his gratitude to all concerned agencies which contributed to the success of the said event.

After the messages from heads of partner agencies, the parents of child laborers signed the “ DEKLARASYON NG PANININDIGAN” to support the initiatives of DOLE and other agencies to help them. As a totality the event was a big success.
