DOLE Batangas Provincial Director Aleta A. Frigillana and Sr. Labor and Employment Officer Cristine Barayang attended the four-day training of inspectors under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 at Travellers Hotel, Subic on 11-14 July 2011.
It was funded by International Labor Organization facilitated by DOLE and the International Labour Organization (ILO) – International Training Center.
The training was attended by representatives from government, management and labor sectors related to the maritime industry aimed to equip inspectors on the applicability of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 on inspections and served as informational campaign on MLC 2006.
Resource speakers were Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, Director, NORMES, ILO Geneva, George Politakis, Sr. Legal Specialist in ILO’s International Labour Standards Department and coordinator of wages, working time and maritime team and Desiree LeClercq, legal officer of ILO – Standards Department and Dani Appave, Sr. Maritime Specialist, ILO Sectoral Activities Department.
The MLC 2006 aims to ensure decent work for all seafarers while giving a level playing field for shipowners.
DOLE Batangas Province’s jurisdiction covers coastal areas where domestic and international ships dock to include ports in Batangas City and Bauan.
