Lucena City—A total of 22 child laborers were rescued last Friday, March 2, at Dalahican Fish Port. The inter-agency efforts brought the Sagip Batang Manggagawa (SBM) mechanism of Department of Labor and Employment a success.

These children were working as “tagahila ng banyera ng isda at yelo; tagabuhat ng bagahe; nasama sa bangka at tagasisid” which were classified as hazardous to their health and safety.

Out of the 22, 17 were out-of-school youth where six (6) children wants to go back to school; five (5) were in school. A orphaned child was staying with a relative but paying for his rent; CSWDO decided to take care of this child.

Meanwhile, children’s parents and guardians were given counseling and warning not to let these children engaged in hazardous workplaces.
