Mrs. Minda Avila sells street foods in front of their house at Gawad Kalinga Village in Rosario, Cavite while taking care of her grandchildren.

Mrs. Minda Avila, a housewife of a tricycle driver with five children was given an opportunity to be awarded by DOLE’s NegoKart (Negosyo sa Kariton) last August 2016. She used to take care her grandchildren while their parents come to work in the nearby factory. When she received the NegoKart, she started her business in front of their house and sell street foods while taking care of her grandchildren.

According to Mrs. Avila, she was thankful that she has income that helped her to support the needs of the family even if she’s at home. Her street food business was profitable and she looked forward that this will be a sustainable enterprise.

She thanked the DOLE for giving her the NegoKart because she earned an average amount of P500 per day which is enough to augment her family’s needs. NegoKart is one of the interventions of DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) which aims to empower marginalized workers by providing the modest means to engage in small business. The assistance she received includes a cooking pan and a gas stove.
