As part of Gender Development Program (GAD), the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in Cavite through the Industrial Relations Division (IRD) and in partnership with the Workplace Taskforce on Family and Health conducted “Usapang Buntis” on 13 December 2016 at Hamlin Canteen, Golden Mile Business Park, Carmona, Cavite. This year’s theme was “Safe Motherhood” that focused on the safety of pregnant workers, taking care of their health and exercises they needed while they are working. The pregnant workers from different locator companies in the economic zone were given learning sessions on family planning, maternal and child care, maternal counseling and free vaccination of Tetanus Toxoid.
A total of around 40 pregnant workers within the zone were given free vaccination on Tetanus Toxoid and participated on the said activity. According to Mr. Allan P. Datahan, Head of PEZA-IRD, he also coordinated with other partners to provide posters, reading materials, baby book, recipe book, condoms and pills. Pregnant workers also consulted and inquired with Philhealth on their maternity benefits as a contributing member.
It was the first time that this activity was conducted in Golden Mile Business Park in Carmona, Cavite. Pregnant workers were very thankful for this kind of activity because they can access some of the services even if they were at work. They wer also thankful for the learnings that imparted to them. The joint undertaking of PEZA together with DOLE Cavite Provincial Office, Department of Health (DOH), Provincial Health Office (PHO), Philhealth, Friendly Care Foundation, Inc. and members of the Workplace Task Force on Family Health was a huge success.
