DOLE Cavite in partnership with Department of Education celebrated the 2017 World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL). This year’s celebration focused on the impact of conflicts and disasters on child labor with a global theme “In conflicts and disasters, protect children from child labor.”

Children have the right to be protected during conflicts and disasters and the best interests of the child have to be upheld. They have the right to regain their normal life and to return learning as quickly as possible – education is the key in combating child labor and for the development of prosperous societies. All children must be protected at all times.

As part of the anti-child labor campaign, DOLE Cavite Provincial Office (CPO) partnered with the Department of Education and conducted advocacy on Republic Act 9231(RA 9231). The advocacy campaign was conducted at Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo National High School located at Gen. Aguinaldo (Bailen), Cavite and Cavite National High School in Cavite City on June 29 and 30, 2017, respectively. Ms. Myrose B. Basila, Senior Labor and Employment Officer and child labor focal person of DOLE Cavite Provincial Office conducted lecture and gave information on the salient features of RA 9231. The activity was attended by a total of 114 participants coming from the students, officers of Student Governance, teachers and non-teaching staffs. There were 59 participants from Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo National High School 55 from Cavite National High School.

Education has a key role to play to prevent children from engaging in the worst forms of child labor. Through the Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL), one of the flagship program of DOLE, the Constitution also recognizes the vital role of youth in nation-building and shall also protect children from economic exploitation and from performance of work likely to be hazardous or interference to their education, health, physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.
