For more than two decades, the Philippine Government has facilitated and benefitted economically from the deployment of Filipino workers overseas. Thus, it is only fitting that the government focus its attention in protecting these “modern day heroes” during recruitment as well as ensuring their reintegration to society should they choose to return.

As a response to the OFW challenge, the Municipal Government of Candelaria being a host to a big number of OFWs in Quezon in partnership with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and TESDA initiated the conduct of an anti-illegal recruitment seminar on September 17, 2019.

It was attended by the Chief Executive and members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Provincial Board Member Beth Sio of the Second District of Quezon, PESO Manager Reynato Ayroso, OFW Help Desk officer and barangay officials of the municipality.

Highlighting the activity was the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between and among the local government of Candelaria, Quezon represented by its Local Chief Executive Macario D. Boongaling, POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia represented by Atty. Ria Corazon S. Lano, DOLE IV-A Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena represented by QPO Head Edwin T. Hernandez. Besides information dissemination, the MOA signing also aimed on strengthening the operation of the existing OFW Help Desk in Candelaria, Quezon manned by the personnel of the concerned local government unit.
