Heeding the call for aid from the residents of towns affected by the Taal volcanic eruption, the Quezon Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (QTIPC) immediately organized a relief operation aimed at soliciting the support of the private sector in the province of Quezon to provide augmentation assistance to displaced evacuees sheltered in some of the far flung evacuation centers of Batangas province.

With less than a week the QTIPC was able to collect donations of cash and in kind estimated at around P100,000 from its member representatives of both management and labor as well as partner institutions like Lucena Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Lucena City Association of Private Schools. The identified evacuation centers recipient of the QTIPC’s relief operation are Cuenca Elementary School and Barangay Dita satellite center both in the Municipality of Cuenca, Batangas. Incidentally, the town of Cuenca is among the municipalities of Batangas located within the 14 km danger zone. At present, the said municipality is attending to more than a thousand evacuees coming from Calumayin, Balagbag, Pinagkaisahan all in Cuenca and other municipalities of Agoncillo, San Nicolas, Sta. Teresita, Taal, Mataas Na Kahoy, Lemery, Tanauan, Balete, Talisay and Lipa.

Among the relief items solicited are used clothes both for kids and adults, diapers for babies, hygienic kits and toiletries, beddings, boxes of easy open canned goods, dry goods and biscuits, bottled purified and mineral water, cup noodles, pancit canton and sacks of rice.

The relief operation took place on January 21, 2020 and it was participated by QTIPC Chair and DOLE Quezon Provincial Head Edwin T. Hernandez, Council Secretary Christine Francisco, BOD for Management Corazon Santiago, Lucena City Association of Private Schools president Lalaine Sarmiento, QTIPC Vice Chair for Labor Ted Gener and Team Energy’s Union Vice President Alex Orig.
