Project Angel Tree Benefits 45 Child Workers in Cavite

The spirit of gift-giving was once again felt by child laborers of Cavite. Through active collaboration with the different social partners and advocates of child labor, the Cavite Provincial Office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-Cavite) conducted the yearly Project Angel Tree (PAT) on 19 December 2019 at the Sports Park Covered Court of General Trias City, Cavite.

The project Angel Tree is a one of the national efforts between DOLE and the private sector in keeping children away from dangerous workplaces. The project also encourages children from identified barangays to continue their education and steer clear from doing hazardous tasks that will endanger their lives and health. Another services of the project is the gift-giving of food, clothing, educational and medical needs, and other work and training opportunities for the child labor beneficiaries.

For this year, Christmas wishes of around 45 profiled and identified child laborers from the different towns and barangays of Cavite were granted. The donors, sponsors, and benefactors came from the 21 participating establishments. To name a few are: San Miguel Yamamura Asia Corportion, Can Asia, Inc., Semitec, IQOR, Liwayway Manufacturing Corporation, etc. They served as the ANGELS of the project, while the beneficiary child laborers are the TREE.

The program proper started with a welcome remark from Engr. Ignacio S. Sanqui, Jr., the provincial director of DOLE-Cavite. First and foremost, he expressed his gratitude to the City of General Trias for providing a free venue for that special project. He also said, “my heartfelt thanks of course to the continuous support of our partners from the private sectors.” “For the past 12 years of implementation of the Project Angel Tree in Cavite, they are always there to support the project, and its objectives cannot be attained without them,” he added. He ended his message with an inspirational quotations from “A Glass of Milk, Paid in Full.”

In respect to Ms. Myrose Basila, the former focal person of the project who already passed away, representatives from Children’s Helper Project, Inc., Children from TUCP-CLASS, and Shorline Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran offered some prayers and gave tributes to Ms. Basila for all her efforts and dedication for the project. A song entitled “Salamat” was also sang by the group.

What added more thrill and enjoyment for the kids prior the main event of gift-giving, is when Kiwani’s Club of Tierra Nevada initiated series of fun games and prizes.

At the end of the activity, all the 45 profiled and identified beneficiaries including their parents and/or guardians were all overwhelmed with the different gifts like grocery items, rice, hygiene kits, school supplies, bags, clothes, etc. that they received.
