DOLE IV-A holds relief operations for Taal Volcano victims

Residents of Brgy. Sulpoc line up to claim their relief packages.

A few weeks after the eruption of Taal Volcano in Batangas, a team of DOLE IV-A personnel went to Brgy. Sulpoc in Tanauan City on January 29, 2020 to provide relief packs to over 120 families affected by the recent string of volcanic activities of the said volcano.

To generate funds for the relief operations, personnel of DOLE IV-A contributed a portion of their salary generating a total of P25,260.00. The proceeds were used to buy rice, toiletries, noodles, water, canned goods and other supplies.

DOLE Region 3 also donated boxes of goods, water, clothes and toiletries.

The DOLE IV-A Employees’ Union also collaborated with the employees’ union of other regional offices to provide for the basic necessities of the residents during these challenging times. By providing relief goods, DOLE IV-A and its employees’ union aim to strengthen the spirit of unity and solidarity of the Filipino people specifically during calamities.

The Sangguniang Barangay of Sulpoc, Tanauan, headed by Brgy. Captain Princess Natividad lauded the efforts of DOLE IV-A which was among the first organizations to respond and provide the much-needed help to the residents.

“Maraming salamat po sa DOLE IV-A sa pagbibigay sa aming kabarangay ng tulong matapos po ang pagsabog ng Bulkang Taal. Ito po ay tunay na nakakataba ng puso sa kabila ng pagsubok na aming dinaranas,” Brgy. Captain Natividad remarked.

Sulpoc is a barangay in the city of Tanauan, province of Batangas. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 2,039. This represented 1.18% of the total population of Tanauan. Due to the eruption of Taal Volcano on January 12, 2020, many of the residents fled to safety to nearby barangays and towns as Sulpoc was largely hit by the volcanic ash and in fear of hazardous eruption.
