DOLE 4A, DTI 4A start workplace joint monitoring to control spread of COVID-19

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), both in Region IV-A, are monitoring various establishments in the region to ensure compliance with the interim guidelines on workplace prevention and control of COVID-19.

During the launching held at SM City Calamba and Waltermart Calamba on June 10, 2020, DOLE IV-A Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena explained the objectives of the monitoring.

“Our objective is not to penalize the establishments but to assist in complying with the guidelines,” Director Jalbuena said.

He added that the monitoring is not the usual inspection being done by DOLE and DTI. Wages and price check is not part of the monitoring, rather, it focuses on the health and safety measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 in workplaces.

DTI IV-A Regional Director Marilou Toledo expressed her gratitude to the establishments’ representatives for the cooperation and willingness to comply with the DTI-DOLE Interim guidelines.

Establishments’ representatives assured their commitment to comply and even challenged themselves to “overcomply” in order to guarantee the safety of their clients and employees. They also manifested that they are very willing to be governed with the standards set by the government.

A team from DOLE and DTI, together with the officials of the malls, conducted walkthrough in the mall premises to check their compliance to the DTI-DOLE Interim Guidelines.

Afterwards, accomplishment of the checklist was held participated by representatives from DOLE and DTI together with employee and employers representatives of the malls.

Priority establishments are those located inside the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), manufacturing companies, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and establishments inside malls.

Amidst the uncertainty and risk brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, DTI IV-A and DOLE IV-A assured that the health and safety of the public, especially the workforce is highly considered and safeguarded through the conduct of joint monitoring to continously remind the establishments to observe preventive measures and control against COVID-19.
