DOLE Quezon monitors power plant for COVID-19 control and prevention

In line with the joint DTI DOLE Interim Guidelines on Workplace Prevention and Control of COVID 19, the personnel of the Department of Labor and Employment Quezon Provincial Office went to the town of Atimonan on June 22, 2020 to oversee the compliance to the said guidelines by both the contractor and subcontractors who are constructing the biggest coal fired power plant in the country.

Located in Sitio Caringay, Bgy. Villa Ibaba, Atimonan, Quezon, the Atimonan One Energy 1,200 Mega Watts Ultra Supercritical Coal Fired Power Plant is currently undergoing three phases of construction namely, mountain cutting, slope protection and drainage system. Its contractor and subcontractors employs more than 600 workers on site.

Aside from the provisions of the DTI DOLE Interim Guidelines, the DOLE team led by its Provincial Head Edwin T. Hernandez also took time to remind the contractors of their responsibility relative to the safety of the workers as provided for in DPWH Department Order No. 39 series of 2020.

Both the representatives of the owner and the contractors were in agreement to the challenges that lie ahead as they impose certain restrictions on site to prevent the local transmission of COVID 19 virus among their workers. Nevertheless, they are committed to observe the provisions of the guidelines in order to ensure the safety and welfare of their workers.

QPO Head Hernandez during the monitoring visit was joined by resident DOLE engineers Ma. Angelica B. Balasta, REE and Alwin B. Boncodin, RME.
