DOLE CALABAZON JOINS SERBISYO CARAVAN, BRINGS ITS SERVICES CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE

It has always been said that the absence of government services in the remote areas of the country attracts the ordinary people to join insurgents and hold arms against the state.

The Serbisyo Caravan facilitated by the Regional and Provincial Task Forces on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (R/PTF ELCAC) in the Quezon Province is one of the most effective tools of the government as it embraces the whole of nation approach in ending insurgency.

Several barangays in Quezon were identified by the task force to be the venue of the Serbisyo Caravan participated by various national government agencies and local government units.

The barangays covered by the caravan held on August 11-13, 2020 are Lavides, Sumilang and Recto.

Said event was participated by its Mayor Matt Erwin Florido of General Luna together with Vice Mayor Jovito Red, some Councilors and the Chief of Police. DOLE Quezon Head Edwin T. Hernandez and Brigadier General Norwyn Tolentino of the Philippine Army’s 201st Brigade also attended and graced the said activity.

Various services of the local government unit were delivered such as issuance of community tax certificate, consultation on agricultural and veterinary matters and advocacy on dengue and COVID-19 prevention and control by the rural health unit. A free on site issuance of police clearance and libreng gupit were also facilitated by the local PNP.

DOLE Quezon Provincial Head committed to provide livelihood support through the establishment of community stores that will supply to the different sari-sari stores in the barangay. During the consultation, the community members who were present were very much appreciative of the DOLE assistance considering the distance of the barangays mentioned from the Poblacion which cost them P300 to P500 per trip just to buy basic food items to replenish their supply of basic commodities.

The activity ended with the presentation of the Barangay Resolution denouncing the New People’s Army (NPA) as persona non grata in their respective barangays.
