The DOLE Kabuhayan Awards is an annual recognition of individuals and groups who have successfully managed their DOLE assisted livelihood projects.  The process, rules and regulations governing the selection of the winners were institutionalized through Administrative Order No. 32 series of 2020 issued by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.  All entries are judged based on their relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and impact.

Beth, as she is commonly called by her peers in the neighborhood, is a trained sewer. But before venturing into sewing she was a Job Order personnel of the City Government from 2011 to 2013.Prior to receiving additional capital in the form of raw materials from DOLE, Beth’s income ranges only from P3,000 to P4,000.However, after she received additional raw materials through DOLE’s assistance her income jumped to P8,000 and her market of rags and doormats also expanded.

On the other hand, the Sariaya Citrus Growers Association from Brgy. Bucal, Sariaya, Quezon received livelihood assistance from DOLE in the amount of P500,000 as working capital for the formation of its calamansi juice production.  From the said amount, the association purchased raw materials, tools and equipment such as but not limited to juice extractor, refractometer, dial thermometer and the like.

Both regional winners are now vying for national recognition as the CALABARZON’s entries in the search for the Kabuhayan Awards Best Individual and Group livelihood projects. Indeed, the performance exhibited by DOLE IV-A’s winners and their determination to be national winners embodies Winston Churchill’s words “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.”

In his message, DOLE CALABARZON Regional Director extends his felicitations to the winners adding that “these recognitions are simple ways of our Regional Office to inspire other livelihood ventures thereby promoting employment generation and increase the income-earning capacity of our workers in the informal economy.” Director Jalbuena likewise dreamed for these projects to transition from informal to formal economy.
