The story of minors Bea and Hero Arizala aged 8 and 4 years old posted at the GMA News online on August 4, 2020 who picked up re-saleable trash from the adjacent subdivision to sell with the rest of her parents junks touched the heart of QPO Head Edwin T. Hernandez who read of the said article. Immediately, DOLE Quezon moved to locate the minors. With the assistance of City PESO Manager Cristina Encina, the family was located by QPO’s Community Facilitator Ms. Yvette Orfanel at Purok Pinag-isa, Kanlurang Mayao, Lucena City.

During the interview by Ms. Orfanel, the mother Mrs. Marilyn Arizala narrated how the family cope up with the day to day living. Her husband has no stable job to support the family so she goes on collecting reusable items and plastic from the nearby subdivision that can be sold in order to augment other other household expenses and school needs of their children. In response, a team from the foundation visited them and gave the children some school supplies and groceries for the family.

Under the initiative of DOLE Quezon, convergence of assistance was provided to the family. Kabuhayan package worth P30,000 was provided by DOLE Quezon and released to the family in simple ceremony at the City Hall on 24 August 2020 with no less than Mayor Roderick “Dondon” Alcala attending the said event. TESDA Quezon was also tapped to provide the father Mr. Lito Arizala a free training on welding while PESO Lucena committed to facilitate the possible placement of Mr. Arizala after the training.
